We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Ranger Manager to lead our team, manage our program, and drive our mission forward.

Position Overview
The Ranger Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Ranger team, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and activities in accordance with contractual obligations and LNAC plans, policies, and procedures. This role involves managing the program within budget, securing commercial contracts, preparing funding proposals, and supervising staff to achieve high standards of program delivery and asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management and Planning: Oversee the daily operations of the Ranger team, ensuring alignment with service agreements and LNAC policies. Develop and implement forward planning strategies to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Budget Management: Manage the program budget, ensuring financial sustainability by generating additional income through commercial contracts and other revenue streams.
  • Commercial Contracts: Prepare and submit competitive quotes and tenders for contracts in the Darwin and Palmerston regions. Ensure contracts are fulfilled on time and within budget.
  • Funding Proposals: Prepare and manage funding agreements, grants, and proposals to secure financial support. Maintain strong relationships with funding bodies.
  • Contract Fulfilment: Monitor and ensure that all contractual obligations are met, including timely and budget-compliant delivery of services.
  • Asset Management: Manage and maintain program assets to the highest standard. Implement maintenance schedules and track asset usage.
  • Reporting: Prepare and deliver internal and external reports, including those required by funding bodies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Staff Supervision: Lead and manage program staff, providing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a positive and productive work environment.

Relevant Qualifications and Experience

    • Certificate IV or extensive professional experience in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture

    • In-depth understanding of Aboriginal culture, issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory, and specific knowledge of Larrakia community history and contemporary situations.
  • Staff and Team Management

    • Proven experience in managing staff and teams, including strong leadership qualities.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain staff respect and loyalty, including creating and implementing succession and training plans for the Ranger Program.
  • Contract Management and Budgeting

    • High-level skills and experience in managing contracts, including meeting planned timeframes and budgets.
    • Experience in quoting jobs, overseeing operational expenditure, and ensuring financial accountability.
  • Collaborative Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Demonstrated experience in leading collaborative partnerships.
    • Well-developed capacity to consult, collaborate, and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of external and internal stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills

    • Highly developed cross-cultural, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to convey information clearly and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Information Technology Competence

    • Experience and competence in using a range of information technologies and applications, including Microsoft Office.
    • Familiarity with land and sea mapping tools and techniques, including GIS and iTracker.
  • OH&S Knowledge

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, policies, and procedures, with experience ensuring compliance.
  • Driver’s Licence

    • Current NT Driver’s Licence (C Class minimum).
