About the role

We are looking for a vibrant person with an interest in promoting Larrakia art and culture, with POS retail experience from our small studio gallery in the Darwin CBD, from where we portray and sell a variety of Aboriginal artworks.  A main feature of the position is to manage and on-board our Cultural Services bookings.

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2018. Salary range starting at $37.19 per hour. Option to salary package a maximum of $16,050 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a 35-hour week. Skills and experience

Essential

  • End to end management of Cultural Services bookings (receive booking requests for Welcome to Country, smoking ceremonies, Saltwater welcome, Didgeridoo & Dancers, Cultural Awareness training)
  • Exhibit a knowledge and interest in Aboriginal Artworks
  • Highly motivated and self-directed;
  • Strong experience in sales, though we do not expect this to be limited to art / gallery settings, rather an exceptional history with commitment to excellence within a past field;
  • Willing to take on challenges big or small within the gallery, i.e. our expectation is for our shop to be beautifully maintained, displayed and always clean and fresh, so anything from cleaning, rehanging and display.
  • Able to go the extra distance to show our clients, customers a special and unique experience - i.e. showing great hospitality and warmth to all.

Required hours / days will be retail hours (9-5) Mondays to Fridays 

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A knowledge of Larrakia culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory
  • Demonstrated competency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office and managing Databases
  • Exhibit a strong knowledge and interest in Aboriginal Artworks, particularly by Larrakia artists
  • A background in retail with exceptional sales history, including Point of Sale (PoS) operations and reconciling cash deposits
  • Excellent communication skills to provide both face to face & phone-based customer service
  • Ability to work as a member of a valuable team and have a passion for developing and maintaining Stakeholder relationships
  • Current NT Drivers Licence (C Class minimum), Working with Children check (OCHRE), COVID Vaccinations, valid First Aid & CPR Certificate

Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) is the peak advocacy and support agency for the Larrakia people, the traditional landowners of the Greater Darwin area. Initially established in 1998 to represent the Native Title interests of the Larrakia people, LNAC has since evolved into a vital service delivery organisation focussed on addressing the social, cultural and economic aspirations of the Larrakia people by initiating and administering programs, projects and services for the broader Aboriginal community. LNAC is a not-for-profit organisation, receiving the majority of its operating expenses from funding from the NTG & Commonwealth Government.
